Programme for children and women

THE ROAD MAP AHEAD

A long-term programme for children up to 6th grade has been initiated in three villages Rajaghatta, Obadenahalli and Aluru. Debora Foundation India has opened centres, at each of these villages. These centres will become hubs of activities for children after school hours. About 30 children can enjoy the facilities in a structured way and have a fulling time with play, song and dance, creative work and moral education. All this under the supervision of trained staff.
Three-month tailoring classes are part of the short-term programmes in two villages – Aluru and Obadenahalli. The intended courses will provide skills to those women and girls who have discontinued their studies or are unable to enrol for higher education. The incentive is gift of a sewing machine on successful completion of the course. This initiative will open up self- employment avenues.

Rajaghatta village, Doddaballpura

I used to feel bad, watching my husband struggle to make ends meet. I wasn’t of any help until I got an opportunity to attend the tailoring course for three months. I was also given the sewing machine with which I can easily stitch anything for the local customers such as salwars, blouses, dresses, petticoats, cloth bags etc.

I come from a village where girls are meant to be homemakers. I never thought I could earn a living, but thanks to Debora Foundation, I no longer have this burden. Debora Foundation has shown us a way to make a living and given me hope for the future by training me on how to stitch and providing me with a tailoring machine.

Though I was considered a grown-up, I wasn’t able to offer any support to my family. Thanks to Debora Foundation who not only taught me how to drive but also helped me get a driver’s licence through a driving school. I started as a driver, but now I own a van with which I do school drop-offs and pick-ups. It has helped me become an earning member of my family.
